Staying Safe

How we will stay safe at Camp 100

Staying safe at Camp 100 is everyone’s responsibility, this includes our staff, volunteers, young people, international partners and visitors to the site. We are doing lots of things to stay safe at camp including:

  • Screening over 16s – DBS / PVG, membership and references
  • Named adults for different age groups and meeting ratios
  • Safety team working together to include safeguarding, stewards and first aid
  • Adult code of behaviour
  • Age appropriate programme for all ages
  • Village roles – safeguarding, coordinator, first aid
  • Sharing important information about the site and those in your village
  • Stewards on a rota at all times (and having provision for out of hours emergencies)
  • Signing in and out of site on the gate
  • Evening check ins for Venturers and DFs
  • Camp wide Code of Conduct
  • Consent sessions and educational activities for all campers.

The Code of Conduct

Everyone on site will be expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct.

Who to go to for support

Before camp – get in touch to info@camp100.org.uk

During camp – can visit the info point who can put you in the right direction to get further support. Camp Office or Steward/First aid HQ.

At Camp 100 the Stewarding and First aid teams will work very closely together and will both have a base in the same place. Finding a steward in a yellow hi vis is also a great way to get support as they can use a walkie talkie to escalate an issue or get a member of the safety team.

Stewards

Stewards:

  • Are the eyes, ears, and hands of the central organising team, undertaking a variety of essential roles to ensure the smooth operation of the camp.
  • oversee the movement of individuals on and off the site, prioritise safety to allow others to focus on enjoying the event
  • use walkie-talkies to communicate / escalate issues
  • occasionally assist with crowd management during
    live music events
  • helping those in need
  • general logistical support
  • Still time to become a steward
  • Our stewards are dedicated volunteers, who generously contribute their time to support the camp. It is important to note that stewards are not emergency responders, nor are they responsible for addressing behavioral issues.

The Village Safeguarding Lead

The Village Safeguarding Lead is a point of contact between the village and central Safeguarding Team. Their main role is to escalate village-level Safeguarding to the central team where there is a need for the central team to know as well as to pass messages back down from the central team to village volunteers.

Part of their role will also to be keeping Safeguarding on the agenda – to be aware of, and prompt discussions around, expectations and different needs within the village. Villages should be having conversations about these things in advance of camp. For example – different delegations within a village should think about being on the same page around mobile phones, bedtimes, check-ins etc.

The Village Safeguarding Lead is someone who can be approachable and asked questions by their village. They should aim to be a friendly-face who is visable and that anyone in the village can see and therefore may feel comfortable to report something. It would be advisable for a Village Safeguarding Lead to be approcahable before camp, to get to know people in the village. They may also find it helpful to consider what additional needs of people in the village need to be shared between leaders to ensure that everyone is able to have a safe and enjoyable time at camp.
